Available Cap RoomPWNED 03-09-2006, 09:48 AM ok so maybe that means NO high quality FA signings... bigm29 03-09-2006, 10:10 AM im so tired of guessing. free agency needs to start now! Schneed10 03-09-2006, 10:17 AM ok so maybe that means NO high quality FA signings... It's enough to get a couple guys here and there, but I don't think you're going to see a huge signing. First it's not Gibbs' style. But more than that, I think the Skins are just looking to fill a few holes and add to what we have in place. I think there's enough room available to add a nickel CB, OL depth, a #2 WR, and maybe a DE. But I don't think any of them will be blockbusters. jhold4th 03-09-2006, 11:37 AM First it's not Gibbs' style. But more than that, I think the Skins are just looking to fill a few holes and add to what we have in place. I think there's enough room available to add a nickel CB, OL depth, a #2 WR, and maybe a DE. But I don't think any of them will be blockbusters. Not sure I agree with you. When the Skins signed Wilbur Marshall, it was one of the hugest free agent signings ever, up to that point. And pretty much killed the Bears. That Guy 03-09-2006, 02:16 PM I did a quick and dirty excel on the longer prorating of bonuses and came up with between 9 and 13 million saved depending on whether we can prorate over 5 or 6 years now. That is HUGE. 5 years this year, 6 years next year, 5 years every year after that. It make no sense to me either. That Guy 03-09-2006, 02:21 PM $10mill is enough to get a real DE (mathis/kampman) and possibly bruce or dyson... the problem is in a couple years when their contracts bloat up and cause a similar situation. sound management can navigate that though. does anyone have solid details on the new deal? did some cash over cap rule pass? cause if so, that seriously affects FA aquisition. luckily lavar is off our books now. cutting brunell post june 1 would save us another 5mill this year too (and 1mill next year) ;) and leave us with one unknown at QB, joy. That Guy 03-09-2006, 03:02 PM do only the top 53 contracts count on your cap? if so that takes canucks 116.8mill down by: 4.2mill (bottom 15 contracts of a 69man roster - there are cuts, but they'll be replaced). 4.4mill lavar 10.2mill cuts harris(2), noble(1.7), raymer(1), ramsey(1.7), bowen(2), tupa (600k), hall (1.2) ...(ditching hall requires a replacement beyond tyler jones obviously) 4.68mill SB re-proration samuels(2.7), rogers(.16), moss(.35), portis(.387), taylor(.42), brunell(.287), griffin(.277), rabach (.1) ....(9 players reprorate this year, 5 of which can re-prorate again next year) 116.8 - 23.5mill = 93.3 without turning bonuses into SB and assuming only top 53 contracts will count... I took canuck's info and looked at all the OBonuses numbers for players, here's were i'm foggy: It shows 20.856mill in bonuses between all players with contracts through 2009 or 2010 (excluding lavar) for this year. do i just take that grand total, and divide it by 5? if so, that saves 16.4mill this year on top of re-prorations (unless they're included in the OBonuses section). Which means 76.9 currently and 25mill under cap. Is that right? I don't see how that'd be possible. And again, Do only the top 53 contracts count towards cap? RiggoRules 03-09-2006, 03:06 PM Unless there was a change in the new CBA, only the top 51 should count at this point. 70Chip 03-09-2006, 06:30 PM I thought it was 51. Schneed, Canuck? steveo395 03-09-2006, 06:37 PM i thought it was 52...but i could be wrong |
