To my fellow fans, I make this statement: whether you disagree with me or not.. Lavar Has been the Heart and Soul of this team for 7 years. When he missed a tackle, I admit- I slandered his name- BUT- when he was on his game - I cheered him relentlessly. His interpersonal squabble with Dan ref: the bonus money was not his downfall but the skins. Yes the skins may have won games without him - but we all waited impatiently for Lavar to take the field over with his ability and charisma. I will sadly miss him, because he is WASHINGTON - He will always be a REDSKIN to me.

He wasn't the heart and soul the last two years he was just another overpriced player. He expected the team to change for his benefit instead of benefitting the team by changing.

If he plays for Dallas he is dead to me...

I'm not shaming the redskins for this season (my favorite thus far as I am only 20 and can barely remember the last of the glory days), just simply the handling of his talent. They made the situation personal as the drama started suspiciously after the whole contract dispute incident (if theres a problem w/ buisness... it should stay buisness). It seems to me that a player of his caliber should be on the field more frequently then he was...regardless....

I just find it hard to believe it was ever about his talent or his contributions to the team on the field. I blame the redskins for making it the lose/lose situation that eventually resulted. If it was a legitimate talent issue... then I'll shut up, but I simply don't believe it was.

If he puts on silver and blue... god help him

"suspiciously after the whole contract dispute incident"
Sure about that? Was his knee injury that occured exactly one game after the contract dispute suspicious?
All accounts are that Lavar tried to rush back too soon from the injury, reinjured it & then in the offseason ripped the team for how they "rushed" him back. When confronted by reporters after Gibbs disagreed w/his statements in his outburst, Lavar had no comment & implied it was the media's fault.
The skins have had plenty of mgmt. problems, but to say he was made an example of is to ignore all of lavar's faults, on & off field. Seems lavar made more public comments about the contract than the skins did.
Its all a pity that it had to end like this. My opinion is that the Danny hates the postons & Lavar sided w/them when they were obviously at fault for not reviewing the contract. Maybe Lavar was verbally promised an extra 6.5 mil, that would put his signing bonus at over $20 mil! Has anyone ever really mentioned that? That's a huge bonus, even for the danny, and way above market value.
Did things get personal & impact his playing time? perhaps, but who's attitude changed & when? Lavar did start right after the dispute, but then he got hurt. Lavar has been classy for the most part here & I wish him well, but he deserves much of the blame, & he certainly deserves blame for overpusuing, being out of position & biting on play fakes.

That is what you pay an agent for.

I hate antonio pierce and champ. They both never shut the **** up. I know antonio has done nothing wrong... yet involving lavar but if Lavar ever ends up talking shit about the skins like bailey and antonio i will be more hurt than pissed.

Dont you see a common thread here. Players leaving with bad tastes in there mouth. started with Brian mitchell, Art monk(both should have never worn another jersey)brad johnson, steven davis, champ bailey, trotter, smoot, peirce. now lavar. I know players tend to say things when they leave, but for all of them to say the same thing, that isn't a coinsodence.

We just notice it more because we pay more attention to what our players (and x players) say when they leave. The players that should have never worn another teams jersey could go for mile's ( Rice, Emmit, Bruce Smith, Joe Mont. etc..) teams just sometime have to make those decisions.

It has been insult to injury, I can't stand the way those things have happened, but this is Gibbs' team now & he's trying to right the ship & not overpay a few guys at the expense of others. AP & Smoot really didn't bad mouth us, they just said the obvious; that free agents were getting paid more than guys who were "homegrown redskins" as smoot put it. They were right but unfortunately Gibbs inherited most of the current salary cap mess we're in, he only contributed to some of the signings, & he doesn't sign the checks. What we're seeing now, w/lavar gone, is part of the bigger picture I hope - more fiscal restraint & sound cap mgmt. PLus, losing doesn't make anyone happy & most of these guys left w/out a winning season here.
But what has lavar said about the skins? nothing that bad except last year's rant about his knee & the $ dispute.
