Didn't G W have him in Buffalo. shallyshal 03-07-2006, 11:56 AM I know he's old and he has some injury issues, but if he doesn't want a ton of money I think the Skins should take a long look at Brentson Buckner. I like the way he plays the game, his personality and I heard he was leader for the Panthers. If he could stay healthy I think that putting him in with Griffin and adding 1 DE that can actually rush the passer would make this defensive line scary. Also, if he doesn't work out and doesn't cost much we already know we have Salave'a who is serviceable at DT. However, I don't think the Skins should be content with him as a starter, I think bringing in Buckner would give us just another option on the line and could end up being huge if he can return to form. he is a good player for a year or 2... but the skins need some youth onthe d line or else they will get old in a hurry. guys like n clemons, boschetti, evans, aki jones and killings are no sure things. we need young athletic def players for the line RobH4413 03-07-2006, 12:00 PM The best DT available is Rockery Bernard from the Seahawks. He is a great interior pass rusher, which is exactly what we need. Big Joe and Grif Stuffing the run on 1st and 2nd down and then Bernard coming in on 3rd. He would also give us a good 3 man DT rotation which will make everyone play better. the only DT shopping we need is for depth. Remember every RB getting stuffed last season. Does anyone have a statistic for how many deflected passes our D-Line produced? Salvae was a beast and Griffin should have gone to the pro-bowl. What we really need to do is replace Wynn @ DE. BigSKINBauer 03-07-2006, 12:07 PM JOe salavea is a true redskins and I am perfectly happy with him at the line. Our line is a unit unlike many lines. The last 5 games of the year they were amazing because there were not 4 individuals but 1 unit. Everyone had their hands up when the ball was thrown. Everyone was working together to get to the QB. Salavea is the man and I wouldn't wasst money to bring in a number one over there. I like renaldo too but i think it is obvious that that position has to be upgraded. One strong DE and we will be absolutly amazing. I always thought they would put LA in a more DE type role but they didn't seem to. Well said. #56fanatic 03-07-2006, 12:40 PM A couple of things : 1) WHY? he is older than what you want starting for you. He isn't going to be all that cheap. Why is it when someone is dropped with a relatively big name do you people think he would be good for the Redskins? Its rediculous. Thats how we get into these dead money issues. signing people to 5 year deals that know they wont play for more than 2. the Springs thing will come back to haunt us , but thats another discussion. 2) I live in Charlotte, ballentyne area where alot of the players live. I have ran into a few of the panthers, Steven Davis(cool dude by the way) Muhammed last year before he signed w/ chicago(another cool guy, signed my sons shirt) Actually Jon Fox lives in my development. no way is this guy not liked. Every radio show with team mates, fans, radio personalities, all love this guy. So he wouldn't be a disruption to the locker room. 3) hes been injured alot the last couple of years, why pay for someone to sit on IR? doesn't make sense. SmootSmack 03-07-2006, 12:48 PM I wonder where it was that I read that his teammates had problems with him. I'm drawing a total blank on it. I remember it being something about them not being happy with some comments he made to the media, and they didn't like how he went back and forth on whether to retire last off-season. Oh well. All that aside, I don't think he's the right fit considering his age and our needs. That Guy 03-07-2006, 01:32 PM noble and griffin were better than griffin and joe S. I don't think big joe needs to be replaced, but ideally if you draft a #3, you hope he can eventually repalce him as the #2. Still getting 35+ year olds is the wrong direction. we've got a decent line minus wynn (griffin is a great #1 DT, if daniels continues how he finished, he's a good #2 DE, joe S is a great #3 and a decent #2), the average age is a little higher than you'd like though. It would mean we could save having to sign another DE and use that money on him... jdlea 03-07-2006, 02:11 PM I don't think the Skins need to add anyone to keep from having to add a pass rushing DE. I don't buy into this thinking that we don't need a quality pass rush from the front four. Granted, Philip Daniels stepped up at the end of last season, but he was going up against a horrible tackle when he had the huge game against Dallas. I think we need a legit pass rusher to play RE and then move Phillip to LE. There is no need to bring in a guy and then not pick up a pass rusher. As for Buckner, I just think he would be great to add to the rotation now. I think he's better than Salave'a, but he's definitely too old to be the solution. |
