MTK 12-17-2011, 11:08 AM thumbs up to the queens mooby 12-18-2011, 12:57 AM You know, as I listen to more and more music, I've come to appreciate bands and songwriters that have better and more interesting lyrics. I've always walked a fine line in regards to mainstream music, because while I like it plenty, it's hard getting involved in some songs where the lyrics are just your generic crap with a catchy beat behind it. Case in point: Five Finger Death Punch. I thought their first c.d. was okay, not mind blowing, but not bad either. Then their second c.d. came, and even though it had the same sound, I liked it a hell of a lot more even though the lyrics weren't that great. Now I just got done listening to their new c.d. and I feel like they shouldn't even have bothered putting it out. It sounds like they went to the Disturbed school of writing lyrics, which is to say they are getting to the point where they rehash the same shit and slap a new c.d. cover on it. Same thing with rap. I really enjoy the song "Street Life" by the Geto Boys, because it not only has a nice beat with it, but they actually tell a whole story within the song. On the other side of the spectrum is this other more mainstream song I like. "Blunt Blowin'" by Lil' Wayne is off his latest, and I like it and everything, but it's just your standard cheesy Lil' Wayne rap with a nice beat behind it. I find myself transitioning more to songs in all kinds of genres that have better lyrics behind it, even if I don't like those songs as much, just because it gets hard listening to the same shit over and over again. Obviously the rehashed shit is mostly money driven, but damn it gets annoying. That's why they have no credibility. It makes me wish we lived in a golden age of music where your mainstream music could have a nice beat and lyrical credibility, and vice versa for more underground artists. mooby 01-05-2012, 08:38 PM And then the first song I post after my post right above this one is this lyrically meaningless catchy song off of Bush's comeback cd. I'm definitely enjoying this one though. It's a good time to be a band from the 90's if your name isn't Nirvana. vi06TWlKeHc Dirtbag59 01-05-2012, 09:28 PM And then the first song I post after my post right above this one is this lyrically meaningless catchy song off of Bush's comeback cd.
