Some basic answers about the CBA from ESPNjamf 03-02-2006, 04:05 PM http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2351462 BTW, I dont give a rats ass if its "Being discussed in another thread". irish 03-02-2006, 04:13 PM The next to last question has an interesting answer, in 2008, no more draft. Players will come out of college as free agents and sign wherever they can. skindogger47 03-02-2006, 04:32 PM This shit is insane. I can't believe what a piece of shit Gene Upshaw is. He's going to decertify the players' union? For what? 1% of the revenue sharing. The players are going to be hating it, although look for people to come to the Redskins cause you know Danny is going to take care of his boys. This still sucks though, the NFL is about to drastically change. BigSKINBauer 03-02-2006, 04:57 PM on espn they were talking about what would happen if somone went over the cap. The analyst laughed and said there was talk that the skins would basically be like **** it. We're going to keep our players and we don't care. He said there would be fines and draft penalties. He then said that snyder could pay all the fines and the skins can't even sign draft picks if they are over the cap so it makes no difference... RiggoRules 03-02-2006, 05:01 PM Here was the most amazing quote in that article: What happens if a team doesn't comply with the salary cap? No team has ever gone over the salary cap, so this is a bit of an unknown. Could Commissioner Paul Tagliabue penalize a team by taking away draft picks? Or could there be fines? With some teams in dire cap shape, we could find out sooner rather than later. The Washington Redskins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was) are one team to watch in this regard, since some other clubs which have studied the Redskins' cap closely have suggested Washington cannot mathematically get into compliance. The big question is, can they renegotiate enough deals to get in compliance. The real doomsday scenario is if they can't. With only six hours left, we'll see. Because of the special 2006 rules, it is not that easy to do -- even with willing players. The best scenario possible is if they find a way to renegotiate enough deals to actually put them under the cap for 2K6 far enough that they will be able to be players in the FA market. jdlea 03-02-2006, 05:06 PM I don't really understand what happens if a team does stay over the cap. I guess they would be forced to forfeit games, that would make sense. What if they let em play over the cap, though? I have no idea what's going on... CRT3 03-02-2006, 05:08 PM This is exactly why I have said that the Redskins are in actually pretty good position as opposed to the many who have said that we would be in trouble. Look they will renegotiate the bonuses for 4 years to extend the cap number. Cut the players who are due big money and who are not a vital cog in the wheel. Also this section from ESPN is significant to us. How does all of this affect the 2006 NFL draft? Signing draft choices will be more difficult this year, because teams can prorate signing bonuses over only four seasons. Already, agents figure the most a top draft choice can make under that scenario is $15 million, a major reduction from recent years. That likely will lead to long holdouts by draft choices. Since we have positioned ourselves with few draft choices we are at an advantage as compared to others. Also in the uncapped year who else is going to out spend the Dan. I just love Daniel Snyder. He does everything he can to help this team win. I don't understand how anyone can not like this man... :laughing2 If crippling the cap, and possibly the draft helps Washington win, they'll be Superbowl champions next season. Southpaw 03-02-2006, 05:11 PM Cut the players who are due big money and who are not a vital cog in the wheel. That's part of the problem. A lot of analysts are saying that cutting big money people will actually cost more towards the cap. The only real option is to restructure a ton of deals. |
