im just glad gibbs has gotten tons of great character players that will step up and restructure
Some basic answers about the CBA from ESPNsteveo395 03-02-2006, 05:17 PM im just glad gibbs has gotten tons of great character players that will step up and restructure That Guy 03-02-2006, 05:21 PM Guy, it isn't a matter of either or, it is a matter of a combination of both. Assume that ESPN is correct that the Skins are currently $14 mil over at this moment (granted, assuming ESPN accuracy on anything is nearly as dangerous as going to a game in Philly). Parting ways with Hall, Tupa, Ramsey, Noble, Bowen, Brown, Farris and Frost gets that number down to about $3-5 mil. Redoing deals with Griffin, Portis, Rabach, Samuels, Springs and Washington puts us about $10-12 mil under. Making a commitment to Lavar would allow for an even better 2K6 number. In a depressed market, $10-15 mill could go a long way. I'm not saying this is what is going to happen, just what is possible. There is a danger that Ashburn is going to be ground zero in salary cap Armageddon. But there is also a possibility that they may be over there manufacturing massive amounts of lemonaid. i've done the math, if you want to keep 18 starters and no depth at all, there's no way we'll have 10mill to spend. not unless 20+ players all min out their contracts. RedskinPete 03-02-2006, 05:35 PM im just glad gibbs has gotten tons of great character players that will step up and restructure Maybe part of his evil plan?????    People this will all work out! I have faith in Gibbs! Maybe this is why he stepped away from coaching the O knowing this train reck was coming. I bet there is a book some where here. When this is all over it be nice to hear what when on in Redskin Park on Black Thursday! CRT3 03-02-2006, 06:03 PM Guy, it isn't a matter of either or, it is a matter of a combination of both. Sorry but no. It is not this simple. The details of the current CBA restrict the amount of money players can make in coming years to no more than 30% of the previous year. This is the infamous 30% clause. Doing the things you mentioned would work in other years but in this year there is very little to be gained by restructuring. I guess if by restructuring you mean all the players take massive pay cuts and forego already agreed upon bonuses then it could happen the way you say. But realistically there is no way we can get under the cap by 10-12. We have discussed this at very long and arduous length around here lately and it is tiring to have to explain it again. If it was easy as you say then all this talk would not be taking place. GoSkins! 03-02-2006, 09:34 PM Sorry but no. It is not this simple. Yes, but I really don't think that the Skins are as short sighted as people here and at the sports-centers seem to think. It looks like the real deal is starting to come out now. Just to reiterate the message from the Skins camp: If there is no CBA, the team will have to build through the draft. If there is a CBA, the team can be agressive in free agency. I have heard concern for sure, but not panic out of the guys who know the contracts and the long term plan. That Guy 03-02-2006, 09:36 PM with all the restructures happening (pending a fail cba argeement), i'd really kinda like to watch the cba die and see what its like... either way, i rather not wait till sunday to figure it out. It would definately be interesting to see what the Plan B is, but I'd rather not find out. backrow 03-03-2006, 12:04 PM It would definately be interesting to see what the Plan B is, but I'd rather not find out. I think this whole FA thingy started with Plan B FA way back when! |
