i don't care about the media. i care about people, I know, saying the skins could never win with the salary cap, blah blah blah. i don't want to be the yankees. I hate baseball because of that.

I couldn't agree more! One of the reasons that the NFL is so great right now is that you never know who is going to win it all. The Yankees have completely ruined baseball. It's not worth it although I won't be too upset if we have a 250 million dollar payroll and our backup safety is Ed Reed.

The skins can win with a level playing field. We proved that this year. We are one or two players away from a legit Super Bowl run.

I dont care either, winning is winning. Too bad we cant buy draft picks.
With no cap, I would say that buying draft picks would definitely be a possibility.

The NFL without a cap would be a disaster IMO, I'm really hoping they hammer something out at the last minute.

Well it looks like it is a done deal friend!!! Out here on the left coast the 49er owner said he see a very dark out look on a new CBA on KMBR! Also Al Davis has said thursday in the SF newspaper he believed that it was highly unlikey that a labor agreement would get done. Talk about killing the golden gosse and both sides :duel: are at falt!

the skins would need to clear 8-10mill in salary this year beyond the projected cuts... that's a lot of money and with the current contracts cutting starters doesn't save much more than 500k a pop (2006 salary - 2006 release fee = savings). Everyone is backloaded on the same schedule hoping for a boom in cap when the new TV contracts come through. We're probably in the worst situation for a dead CBA. Jets and raiders have contracts they can toss with tiny release fees, we don't :/.

The boom in TV money will be big for the owners as you said....So is it a good thing for the owners not to get a CBA done?

no, the skins structured all their contracts to be backloaded when the new tv contracts come through while assuming a new cba would just get done. the new tv contracts come AFTER when this CBA is supposed to be done though. If it doesn't get done, then we have to ditch guys left and right due to the heavy restrictions placed on the last year of an existing CBA, and by the time new tv deals happen there won't be a cap anyways.

no new CBA is the worst possible situation for the skins this season, as this team has a terrible contract roster for cap management going into a dead CBA - probably the worst with how the backloading is all taking effect this year and next.

The reason for the thread's title is becuase if this plays out we will take an immediate hit that would probably mean Gibbs won't get another SB before the coaching timeframe he alloted himself runs out, but once GW takes over we will be in a postion to buy all the talent we need.

I also agree that it takes more than money to win, but as you pointed out sometimes it only takes that one or two guys to get you over the hump.

To answer my own question - I guess I'd be fine with it, afterall i enjoyed the 80's when Big Jack (best owner ever) used his wallet to our advantage. What inspired the question is the amount of people I meet who say they don't like the Skins because Snyder tries to buy a Super Bowl - and that is during the salary cap era. And I also admit I don't root for the Yankees because of this (the fact i grew up near baltimore is another reason).

Didn't we learn anything with Deion, Big Daddy, etc.

You can't just buy a team. So much goes into making a productive team, it takes those guys willing to do the dirty work. A work ethic most "stars" refuse to take on. At first I was excited at the chance to have an uncapped year, but I don't want it anymore. However, I think the league realizes how important the cap is and will drop the revenue sharing down.

It wouldn't necessarily be the same situation as in 2000, Daseal. It would be like it was back in the 80's when we kept a good team pretty much all the time, because we could pay what we needed to pay our players to keep them together. If we have a potiential Super Bowl team, I would want to keep that team together as long as I possibly could.
