Crazy Canuck's latest installment of his world famous cap sheets (http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm) are now up for your number crunching enjoyment. :)

Matt Bowen $2.4M salary but only $400K release fee.
Brandon Noble $2.6M salary but only $930K release fee.
Cory Raymer $1.1M salary but only $133K release fee.

The first two are logical cap saving cuts, they are as good as gone. Cory is most likely gone, but Buges may lobby to keep him.

Does the entire release fee have to go on that year's cap (dead money) or can it be strung over multiple years like a bonus?

Does Buges like him that much? I would classify cutting Raymer not as "logical", or "super-logical", but as "super-duper-logical".

I think it's a one year thing. From Canuck's notes:

2. ReleaseFees - lists each player's cap hit, followed by his "release fee" in that given year. The release fee represents the amount of dead money that would be incurred by releasing/trading the player prior to the year in question (before June 1st).

If we release a player AFTER June 1st, dosent it go onto next years cap?

After Raymer's miserable postseason appearance against Seattle, I think it's obvious the Skins can be much better and for a lot less $$.

The 2006 portion of the release fee would count against the 2006 cap, and the rest would go to 2007. But there's no June 1st rule this year unless there's a new CBA.

That's a good idea though. I'm gonna add a "post 6/1 release fee" column to my sheets in the next update.

I read this on ES and was wondering if anyone here actually knew....

What exactly do they do you if you dont get under the cap? Throw you in football jail? Not let you compete? I mean how would that work if we were just to say, "you know what, were good"?

you can't. the NFL has to sign off on every contract i believe, so you couldn't sign anyone else and i guess they could DQ you from every game until you're under the cap if they wanted...
