They say Wayne will not be available, but I have not given up on him yet. I really dont think that the Colts can afford to franchise him with their others players they are paying. We will see. I am sure Danny boy is just sitting back waiting on weather they sign him or not.

They've talked themselves into a corner. If they dis Wayne now, there will be a media frenzy. I think they should think twice about letting James go, however. Without a solid running game, they might become the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, they couldn't run the ball in the playoffs anyways, so maybe they figure they're not losing that much by going with a younger back. At any rate, it seems certain they will sign Wayne to a long term deal. The franchise tag is tricky because 1)you create bad blood with the player and his people, 2)you're right back in the same place next season, and 3)it creates a large cap hit.

they'll have a solid running game regardless of the RB cause peyton is throwing.

I thought so too, but look at Manning's numbers when James went down. He was horrible, except when compared to his rookie season. He had 26 TDs and 23 INTs. Not only that but they sucked even though Dominic Rhodes had a 1000 yard season. Of course that was also the year of the infamous "Playoffs?! Don't talk about playoffs! You kidding me?! Playoffs?! I just hope we win a game! Another game!" Jim Mora Sr. sound bite.

E. James is a keeper, unfortunately the Colts don't have the loot. I'm guessing if they lose James they'll draft a RB.

james is good, but they'll have a shot at guys much better than rhodes in the 1st and 2nd round. Maybe maurice drew (fastest rb available)... either way, 5mill a year for an rb is too much when you got two #1 WRs and a 100$mill QB strangling you.

does anyone else think p manning is being very selfish with his big fat contract eating up sooo much of indys cap room?they have a good thing going and to let james walk could be their window closing

Nah, Manning's contract is better than Vicks and has more guaranteed money and is evenly spread base salary.

Manning: 98 million contract, 34.5 million signing bonus and 19 million in roster bonuses over seven year period. Unless they cut him he'll earn 53.5 million in bonus money over 7 years.

Vick: 130 million contract, 7.5 million signing bonus and 29.5 roster bonus (22.5 million already earned) over a period of 10 years. Vick will earn 37 million in bonus money over a ten year span.
