What's the story on this guy? I was too young to remember what became of him after his performance in Super Bowl XXII.

If not for the fact he wasn't a Pro-Bowler, nor a Hog, I'd think he was the one selling his Super Bowl ring on e-bay.

He was cut the next season I believe and tried to catch on with other NFL teams. He wound up playing a season or two in Canada I think. Recently he got arrested to some really serious drug charges, if you Google him Id say those recent developments would come up.

If I remember correctly. The next year he really didn't play that much and was cut before the 89' season. I think he played for the Dallas Cowboys in 90'. But that was about it.Smith rushed for a Super Bowl-record 204 yards that day. Timmy Smith was a shooting star. But at least he flew by during one of the greatest games in Super Bowl history. :point:

What's funny is, I don't think he knew he was gonna start the Super Bowl until the day of the game. Appearantly Joe Gibbs only let Doug Williams in on it.

One helluva game he had though. That record is going to be hard to beat!

That's right Gibbs didn't want him to get to freeked out so he didn't tell him about starting until Sun. I forgot about that.

He played 14 games in '88 and 3 in '89 and then was gone. He was nothing after the '87 SB.

Some thoughts on Smith from Mr. Gibbs himself:

http://www.superbowl.com/insider/story/6116786

"Timmy Smith," Gibbs says, shaking his head. "He was a rookie who drove us crazy. I'd call him in my office, one on one. Most players in that situation, even veterans, are shaking. Not him. I'd say, 'If you don't get your attitude straightened out, you'll be out of the league.' He'd leave my office and say to my secretary, 'Barbara, how you doing?' Happy go lucky, like nothing happened.

"So we get to the Super Bowl and George Rogers, who started for us all season, is hurt and can't play. We have to start Timmy, and we're all thinking we're in trouble. What happened, I think, is Doug settled him down. He could talk to Timmy like a father figure and Timmy would listen. I think that day Doug told Timmy, 'This is the game we worked for all year. Get your butt moving.' And he did.

"A couple years later, Timmy was out of the league just like we thought he'd be, but the record he set in that Super Bowl is going to be around for a while."

I know about his recent troubles, but wanted to know what was the real reason the Skins let him go. Was it because he got hurt? Coming out of college Smith was hurt both his Jr. And Sr. year and the Skins took a big chance on him. The whole team stunk following the super bowl victory. Even Doug Williams stunk the following year. Why did the Redskins stink in 1988?

Well Williams "sorta" got hurt the following season running on a treadmill or something...and never really made it back to his Super Bowl form.

In fact, I don't even remember him playing the next season.
