gortiz 01-27-2006, 02:35 PM Joe has made a habit of crossing us up the last couple of years,
First of all, he came back! We thought that he would have leaned towards Winslow then he opted for Taylor, of course the Portis trade, then just recently the Saunders hire, one of the biggest curveballs for me coming from Joe Jackson was his willingness to stand by Brunell who, all of you can agree, hurt or not hurt, had a horrible 2004.
I was thinking, Joe brought in Brunell, he believed in him to be the starting QB, and he stood by him, through thick and thin even after he had the worst QB rating in the NFL. He never gave up on him. Who is to say he does the same with David Patten and completely forgoes the idea of getting a #2 receiver. I know, it sounds crazy, but it is not like we didn't have a player at the position, we did, he just got hurt. Joe wanted this guy, Joe went out and got this guy, and we all know, that Joe sticks by his guys.
The more I think about it, the more it seems plausible to me. We have alot of other issues that might be brewing, Ryan Clark could leave, Taylor could do time, Springs is getting old, we could upgrade at Tight End, we need a DE, and punter. Its just a matter of time before Joe crosses up again, maybe it will be by sticking with Patten??? thoughts?
dmek25 01-27-2006, 03:21 PM i for one do not think getting another receiver is top priority.patton is getting paid well and lets give him a full season before passing judgement.on that note t jacobs must go.can anyone think of one good reason to keep him?
saden1 01-27-2006, 03:30 PM Anyone know how many draft picks we have this year and in what rounds?
That Guy 01-27-2006, 04:53 PM 2, 3, 5, 6, 6, 7 i believe if we get no compensatory picks... all at 24 in the round i believe (the extra 6th will be 28 or so)
Dana87 01-27-2006, 05:15 PM I too think that Patten will be a productive WR for us. I do However feel more comfortable with him as the #3 WR. I think we are a real good #2 WR away from being the best offense in the NFC. Imagine... Moss, Robinson, Patten, Cooley. That would really stretch the defense giving Portis extra and wider gaps to exploit. By doing so we will control the clock better and beeven more productive in the RedZone. This in turn will me our Defense will probably improve back to the top in the league. Due to the fact that they wont be on the field as much, and that they will be able to be more aggressive playing with a lead. I would love to see the Skins make a run at Wayne but I have become more convinced that the Colts are going to either sign him or franchise him. I like Randle El but I dont think he would be as good of a possession WR as Robinson. I think Robinson has the most upside of the currently available WR's. I know he has had problems in the past but by all accounts he seems to have cleaned up and gotten his life back on track. Plus he will not cost us a fortune. I would love it if Santana's brother would fall to us in the 2nd rnd. I think he would be hard to pass up at that point.

we better get some compensatory picks from losing pierce and smoot...especially from losing pierce cuz he had a really good year

i agree... patten is older now and you need better depth than the skins had, after patten there was NOTHING. so even if patten is our 2, bringing 2 more guys (one solid, one near min like a reche caldwell or whatever) is sorely needed. I also think KR is the best pickup if we can't get curtis.
moss's value is a total unknown right now... a few have him going late 1st to the giants, others have him undrafted in the first 3 rounds... i'd guess he'd be a late 2nd unless his combine is good (which is definately possible). he didn't produce well for a go-to guy, which would help the skins (miami was TERRIBLE at QB). Santana and smith's crazy years hurts though. I think there is another super speed WR that's rated above him, which would also help.

I hear what you're saying. I mean I'm thrilled we got Moss, but last year at this time I think just about all of us would have said Coles was a "core" Redskin. And next thing you know he's gone.
I'm sure something will happen this offseason that will leave us stunned. If it hasn't already happened with Saunders. Like maybe Ramsey stays, and Campbell is traded. I'm not trying to start any sort of rumor, but....Campbell excelled in college in a West Coast style offense. Musgrave, a WC guy came in and pretty much worked exclusively with Campbell. Now Musgrave is gone an Gibbs has been hyping up Campbell (upping his trade value?)...What the hell, I'm starting the first official Unsubstantiated Campbell Will Be Traded Rumor Hype Myth

One thing is certain. Gibbs perception about what is wrong with the offense is totally different from ours. His stance on Brunell, Moss, McCants, Jacobs has gone squarely against CW. Trading Campbell may be a fridge too far. Who wants to bet me they bring in Keyshawn?
