I wish I wrote it, but if you check the original post you'll find the link in the title

Matty, I see that now, but I still think it would be a great book. I would want to know the differences in the offensive or defensive philosophies of each tree and maybe how they have been modified, if it were fleshed out in a book. However if I knew that, I guess they would have to kill me right! Too many secrets and all.

I was looking at this article last night after doing a search on "Don Coryell Coaching Tree". What surprised me was the extent of Marty's influence. (I would have posted it but as a relative newcomer I did not want to risk a verbal beat down like that young kid was getting yesterday)

Also, TAFKAS mentioned the Allen/Vermeil connection. I heard that Allen was on the sideline at Veterans stadium in 1981 rooting the Eagles on against the hated Cowboys. I also found that Sid Gillman was Vermeil's quarterback coach in Philadelphia. A copy of his Eagles playbook is (or was) on sale at EBAY.

What about John Madden? Where does he belong? At the top of the tree or somewhere else?

Good point. He and Gibbs coached under Coryell right?

John Madden would cause the tree to come tumbling down.

70Chip - As a fellow Manasshole, I would encourage you to speak your mind freely and openly. Don't worry about what you post. Just worry about the 75 "Moderators" we now have.

I was speaking with tongue slightly in cheek. I'm never sure what people find interesting. I love this sort of historical stuff as I think TAFKAS does. Others seem to prefer discussing pie. I'm all about League History, Playcalling, and Announcer-Hating.

Also, I definitely think there is a teriffic book in all these relationships. My experience has been that when I have an idea that I think would make a good book, the book comes out about 6 months later. (The original concept for "Bridges of Madison County" was mine, man!)

I love historical stuff as well...but I also love discussing pie, ice cream, and topics that have already previously been discussed ad-nauseum. I'm a Rennaisance man

I sort of half-mentioned the Marty tree around this time last year (http://www.thewarpath.net/showpost.php?p=59527&postcount=12)

Thanks Matty for expanding on it all
