A lot of people critisized the Redskins for giving up so much for another QB. But if you really look at the trade we didn't give that much at all. Basically we gave up a 2nd rnd pick in '05 and a 4th rnd pick in '06 to move our 1st rnd pick in '06 to '05. That in it's self is a pretty good move, but when you factor in that now they are able to start grooming the next starting QB a year early it becomes an even better move. Actually I think this could end up being the move that cements the Redskins championship tradition for years to come.

I agree with you. Though most will look at what we gave up, like with the Portis trade. You really can't measure the impact in terms of draft picks, especially if he turns out to be a really good QB.

The fact that he's already been in our "system" for a full year has already reaped some benefits for Campbell.

It depends, you also have to take into account that Campbell was projected as a mid second rd pick, so to give up a #1, #2, and a #4 is quite excesive for a mid 2nd rd pick.

I agree, on paper it was a helluva lot to give up. But let's just suppose Campbell wins one Super Bowl during his career with the Skins. Would it have been worth it?

what it was criticized about the move is that everybody tought Campbell was an early second not first so it was said that washington gave 2 much for him and it will be valued once everybody knows is he is any good or a Bust thats at least 3 years from now

It like the bills dallas trade 2 years ago right now dallas has the upper hand dallas got Julius Jones, Ryan, M. Spears and Drew Bledsoe ( because the bills dump him because they had Losman and needed him 2 start ) for J.P Losman Advantage Dallas

or

SD trade with Atlanta 4 years ago

SD got D.Brees and LT and Atlanta got M.Vick advantage S.D

or

SD trade with NY 2 years ago

SD got Merriman and Rivers NYG Eli Manning right now the advantage is for NY because rivers seems it won't play in SD it all depends what SD gets from him and Eli took his team to the playofs on hsi second year.

Here's how I would look at it, I am greedy when it comes to maximizing talent, and regardless if he wins a SB we could still have done better, we could have possibly kept more draft picks and win 2 SB's who knows, I am not a believer in overpaying for a player if I don't have to. But if he does win a SB you can't argue with it either.

On the other hand, if he doesn't win a SB how would this trade be viewed?

We really didn't give up a 1, 2, & 4. we only gave up a 2 & 4 to use '06 #1 in '05. No matter what we used the pick for that in it's self is good value. The QB possition has to be the hardest to evaluate in the NFL. I can't tell you how many supposed 1st rnd guy's have been total busts, and how many late rnd guys have become franchise QB's. When ever you take a QB in the 1st rnd it's a huge risk I don't care where is ranked. My point is the fact that we have an extra year to develope our next QB. Whether he is Gibbs' Next Super Bowl QB or not really isn't the point.

Well, it would depend. I think if accumulates some amazing stats but no ring, people will always question the move. If he takes us to the big dance and wins, many will say it was a good move.

And if he does neither, well....

Its easy to say now, but no one knew how good/bad we would be this year. Alot of people (not here) actually had us being a top ten pick, so hind sight is 20/20. Looking at it now though, I'm happy.

washington had most likely heard that someone before the 2nd round was looking to draft campbell, so they pulled the trigger on a deal.
