Gibbs never says anything negative abotu a player. The guy could be killing our season(hint:2004) and Gibbs would insist he is fighting his guts out. I love the coach but I'll believe Campbell is the goods when I see it with my eyes. I have no reason to think he isn' though so that is good.
True Gibbs never says anything negative about a player, but conversely he's never effusive in his praise for a player either just for the sake of saying it. He never came out and praised Ramsey, for example, like that. For him to be that excited and specific (accuracy is a big thing with him and part of the reason they don't trust Ramsey) makes me think that he's seen things that will bode really well for the future of the franchise at that position.

wow, I get excited hearing that from gibbs
hope that we have a future superstar qb, who does not only like to run aka mike vick, vince young
but also qb who is accurate and a decision maker ala brunell and brady
I don't know that Campbell has the speed/playmaking ability like a Vick or Young, he maybe a slower version of McNair back in his day.. He's got decent speed for a QB (4.6, 4.7) but he is by no means a blazer..

I think you're right on that Campbell could throw more TDs but probably more INTs too - just goes with being the new guy and adjusting to the NFL.

Obviously winning the Super Bowl is the ultimate goal no matter who the player is. I guess I've always taken exception to the attitude that we'll try to win at any cost, even at the cost of building a strong, long-lasting team. Doing what the Raiders did and throwing together an amazing team for a one-year run is just disheartening. Look at them now.

I'm much more for long-term team growth than hanging on to Brunell in the hopes of snagging a Super Bowl win and having the team disintegrate afterwords. That's what makes the Patriots impressive is their ability to compete like they do year in and year out.

I don't think anyone will argue that Brunell is anything but a short-term solution. He's 36 now and will be 37 once then next season starts - he has very little time left to be effective.

Actually he's 35 now and will turn 36 shortly after next season starts.

I think the article Daly wrote in the Was Times has some interesting stuff about Brunell.

My point about Brunell is the same as this guy's. This season was the best he could be. We can't count on getting this out of him again. I don't care if his receivers are Jerry Rice and Art Monk. We need to have a plan on how to have a better QB. Not just a solid guy but a good guy who allows us a thicker more advanced playbook.

It's kinda funny that last year at this time Brunell couldn't get it done period, now it's ok we were wrong yeah he can still play... but now he can't take the team all the way.

What Gibbs said about Campbell gives me alot of hope. I can't wait to see Jason play next year in preseason. We didn't really get a chance to see too much of him play this past preseason. Could be a situation where Campbell gets moved to #2 next year, and the Redskins sign a veteran qb at #3.

To whoever said that Brunell just had an adequate year, I humbly disagree. Brunell had a solid year this year. Yes, it wasn't a GREAT year, but it much more than just adequate. He'll be back next year starting for us again, and hopefully when we have another solid receiver for Brunell to throw to, we'll see that Brunell has alot of football left in his 35 year old arm.

Do you think they can win a SB with Brunell as QB?

That was me. It's OK that we disagree.
A QB who can't throw for more than 41 yards in a playoff game gets no more than an "adequate" in my rating system.

I really don't know, I'm not ready to say he absolutely cannot take the team all the way, and as I said in another thread I don't think it's all on his shoulders either.

Brunell's level of play seems to coincide with how the entire offense as a unit is playing. He's not a guy that can carry a team on his back, but when the offense is playing well he's a great compliment. Placing all the blame on Brunell when the offense struggles is a cop-out in my opinion. The offense as a whole struggled in the playoffs from the offensive line to the backs to the receivers.

bingo ...

Do people ever learn? I mean, until the crow is down your throat and in your belly, most people, including myself just don't get it.

Brunell had a bad year, we upgraded our O and tweaked it, he has a good to great year, and now the season is over, he had a few bad games that left a bad taste in our mouth and now he is sucks all over again and he can't do it, and we got all we are going to get out of him. We gave MB one good receiver and look what he did this year... we give him one more and who knows how good he can be next year. Do I want Campbell to start and play and be successful, HELL YES. But is it realistic and a big gamble to start him next year.....yes.
