Here's my off season wish list - in order:
1. We keep Lavar Arrington.
2. We get TWO decent back-up offensive linemen because Brown and Raymer will both be gone.
3. We get a starting WR and good third WR.
4. We get a good spare CB, not to take anything away from Ade...
Gmanc711 01-14-2006, 08:36 PM A healthy Brunell should be our starter, but I think if this year proved anything....he cant go a complete season anymore. SHOULD he be our starter next year, and get hurt, I dont think he should force himself back. Let someone else play a couple games so he can be healthy and effective.
On the QB front, I think that unless Ramsey or Campbell just step forward and claim the starting job in training camp, Brunell will start the season. But, I think Campbell will be getting himself groomed to take over, if the need arises.
Daryl Elite 01-14-2006, 08:38 PM Is it just me or does C. Raymer look a lot fatter than he used to?
bertoskins 01-14-2006, 08:40 PM if ramsey did not stay,
brunnel will surely be our starter, but we need to pass on the batton and train campbell very hard
as shown today, our offense lacks depth, so we need to
upgrade that area. wr, offfensive line men
jordanz301 01-14-2006, 09:09 PM Brunell is our starter. Today we found out just how bad we miss Randy Thomas. Ray Brown can't get it don't and Raymer won't be back next year. Portis could not get any holes and with only Moss and Cooley "in the pattern" Brunnel did not have enough options.
i dunno what youve been watchin dude, but what i know is ray bown played his butt off and did a hell of a job at that too.......but raymer......just plain awful......terrible
Paintrain 01-14-2006, 10:13 PM 1. #1 priority has to be a 2nd WR who can move the chains and make the occasional big play. David Givens, Brandon Lloyd, Quincy Morgan someone who won't cost much in $$ or picks.. Jacobs, Farris and Thrash are gone, Patten is a suitable #3..
2. Develop Jason Campbell.. The Redskins got extremely lucky with Brunell's health this season and likely won't be as fortunate again. Ramsey will be somewhere else next year (sorry Ramsey fans but he's gone) so we need Campbell to be ready to come in and at least manage the game and make plays when neccesary. We gave up a #1 pick for him so he needs to make good on it.
2. Pass rushing DE/3rd Corner.. Daniels came on late, but for most of the season he was a non factor rushing the passer.. Walt Harris was exposed as Elvis 'Toast' Patterson 2005 so he needs to get somewhere.. Time maybe for Ade to become the nickel corner or draft/develop someone for that role..
3. Build OL depth.. Ray Brown played well, but at 42 it was clear he was not suited for extended playing time. Raymer was done the last time he was a Redskin, Wilson and Molinaro haven't developed as hoped.
4. Re-sign Betts long term.. It's clear that he is an integral part of the running game and with a continued reliance on Portis we need him to spell Portis to keep him fresh and healthy.
5. Continue to develop the offense.. It took 5-6 weeks for it to open up but it still regressed in the playoffs. Next year should be a return to glory for Gibbs in his 3rd and likely final season as he has 2 full seasons to know the league and build his game plans accordingly..
mooby 01-14-2006, 10:37 PM I agree with most of your points Paintrain. We need to resign Betts, we need o-line depth because Ray Brown is retiring, and Cory Raymer should be gone. I do believe that Walt Harris could be a good nickel corner, and hopefully Rogers stays healthy, because he has progressed well enough to be a #2. I saw why we keep Ade Jimoh every year, he has made progress as a corner this year when Springs was down, and he is a special teams beast. We do need depth though, because we saw how backups played when starters went down this year. I do think we need a pass rushing defensive end, Daniels was strong at the end of the year, but he wasn't all year long, and Wynn is valuable as a run stopper, but not much of a pass rusher. I think we could keep both, reduce their cap hit a bit, and sign a situational pass rushing lineman, someone like Robert Mathis for the Colts.
Hail2em 01-14-2006, 10:42 PM this might sound crazy, but now that the season is over, i don't know about you guys but i'm really pumped about the offseason!!
bigm29 01-14-2006, 10:50 PM everyone agrees that campbell is our qb of the future right? y not start him next season. yes brunell is good but is he really gonna win us a super bowl. kitna was still good when the bengals started palmer.
