I'm sure people will take issue with some of my classifications, but I think "successful" has a broad definition.

Southpaw 01-13-2006, 01:28 PM I'm sure people will take issue with some of my classifications, but I think "successful" has a broad definition. Yeah, I have to disagree with a few of those. Herschel Walker had a pretty good career, so he shouldn't be labeled a "bust". Bo Jackson was one of the best backs in the league before a freak injury finished his career. If you're basing it on the length of his career, then I can see your argument, but if Ricky Williams and Vinny Testaverde are considered "good" then Jackson certainly should be. 12thMan 01-13-2006, 01:46 PM I know he's not on the list, but Gayle Sayers only played a little over 5 yrs w/Bears before his career ended and yet is in HOF. firstdown 01-13-2006, 02:02 PM What every happened to the running back I think played for either Miami or FL State who got their knee blown out in a bowl game. I forgott his name but I do remember that he got drafted later and I think he was the Heis.winner that year. This was about 2 or 3 years ago. 12thMan 01-13-2006, 02:05 PM What every happened to the running back I think played for either Miami or FL State who got their knee blown out in a bowl game. Bo is hard to peg since he played two sports. I moved him a couple of times before just dropping him in bust. I would agree, though, that he could be considered a success. Check Ricky's stats (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/WillRi00.htm) - I think you have to consider him a success, despite his weirdness. Sitting out a year doesn't help, and that assessment could change a few years down the road. Vinny has 45,000 passing yards and 270 TDs over an 18 year career - that's a success any way you slice it. Herschel had three good years (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/WalkHe00.htm) at the beginning of his career, but didn't really do squat afterward. He wasn't a complete bust, but I'm not sure I would categorize him as a success. There should probably be three categories - those who did very well, those who did fine, and those who were complete busts. onlydarksets 01-13-2006, 02:54 PM Willis McGeHee He came out as a sophomore - I think he finished 4th in the voting? 12thMan 01-13-2006, 02:59 PM He came out as a sophomore - I think he finished 4th in the voting? Not sure, but that's the back he was referring to. onlydarksets 01-13-2006, 03:04 PM Not sure, but that's the back he was referring to. Yeah - I meant to quote firstdown. Oops! |
