12thMan 01-12-2006, 03:17 PM Gotta remeber though that Salisbury's 12 career starts make him an undeniable "expert". This guy is an idiot just like you said. Doesn't have an original thought in his head and has no actual analytical abilities or doesn't have the motivation to do the analysis for real. At least guys like Jaws show they actually sit down and look at tape and can explain what is going and why. I only respect a couple analysts. The community here is generally better on analysis than just about every talking head out there.
I agree, the analysis here is hands down better than anything on any of the media outlets.
On a side note of my own: BSB, I never got the big welcome either!!
skins052bgr8 01-12-2006, 03:38 PM It is funny as hell when they all start taking up for each other and put down a fan and their opinions and justify it by saying this is what all the experts are saying. Collin Cowherd and Salsbury are famous for that mess. So whenever you step off the field Woodson, Salsbury, Sehorn, Tim Brown, Lincoln Kennedy, you become an expert and know why a team is going to win and why. Why don't they just hire the ball boy who has been on the sidelines for years. Those who are most knowledable are Jaws and Clayton and are very fair in many of their predictions. All the others read each others hoopla and call it their own expert opinion from hours of study. I may not be an expert, but I know my Skins and they are playing great and by no means be a 9 point underdog and Seattle being a guarantee.
12thMan 01-12-2006, 03:48 PM Mike and Mike are usually reading emails from fans - does anyone know that address??
ArtMonkDrillz 01-12-2006, 04:02 PM Sean Salisbury makes me sad that I went to Salisbury University. Is it illegal to kidnap him and force him to make the walk while being tethered to a moped?
memphisskin 01-12-2006, 04:22 PM I saw Salisbury on M&M, but I didn't know he originally said it was if we made the playoffs. Guess he thought Theismann was a homer, not that he isn't. Salisbury said he'd make the walk if the Skins made the SB, not naked and not in January. Who knew this would come back and bite him. But as weak as the NFC is, anything is possible. I'd feel a whole lot better if we weren't so banged up, but our team is built around the defense so we should be cool.

Isn't it interesting, when he makes reference to his career as a player, it comes across more like.............he was a perennial, accomplished, starter,. Besides all the other previously stated, dude is DAMNED ANNOYING
sportscurmudgeon 01-17-2006, 11:46 PM Just curious here about all the hate shown to analysts like Sean Salisbury:
Why is it OK for "Doc" Walker to go down on the entire Skins coaching staff on a weekly basis and to swap spit - not loogies - with every starter on both the offensive and defensive units? That's what he does and his comments here are taken as gospel truth more times than not. And let's be really polite and not point out just how off target "Doc's" predictions can be and have been...
If you disagree with Salisbury, then disagree with him and offer counter-arguments. But to hate him because he doesn't think the Skins are the best team in the NFL - - News Flash: They aren't at the moment! - - is sort of silly.

i dont think anyone said they hated him because he doesn't drool over the skins, but if you can point that out i'd like to see it. Most people hate how he laughed off the skins to even have a chance at the playoffs in anyway, made a stupid bet about it and then reneged months later. Most national analysts had us going 4-12 to 6-10 though, so it wasn't just him. Most regionals had us at 8-8 though (except the three on BW's show on 980 which had us at 6-10). Either way, if you're going to make a very public bet because you're SO sure you're right, don't welch when it turns out you where completely off base.
Turns out Joey T is the ONLY espn analyst with any pre-season picks left in the playoffs (he choose the steelers in the AFC title game and in/to win the SB and panthers in the NFC title game, no else else has ANY correct picks in the final four except him). He was nuts to say we'd make it to the superbowl, but I guess he's a bit smarter than i thought.

I don't disagree with him because he doesn't think the Skins are the best in the NFL, it's obvious they're not.
But c'mon SC, the overall sentiment all year in the national media has been generally pretty negative towards the Redskins. Blowhards like Salisbury and Cris Carter have seemingly gone out of their way at times to slam the Skins, make bold predictions regarding their demise, and even make statements like I'll walk from NY to DC or wear a hogette costume if they make the playoffs(which they both pathetically renegged on).
Right from the start of the preseason the Skins were given no shot. Dr. Z said we'd go 4-12. I asked Lenny P. in a preseason chat if he would write a positive article about the Skins for a change if they made the playoffs, he said he had nothing to worry about that the Skins weren't gonna do it.
After the 3-0 start we heard blowhards like Brian Cox proclaim the Skins were the worst 3-0 team in NFL history. Even after we smoked Dallas in the 2nd meeting all Sean Salisbury had to say after was he still felt Dallas was a better team and that they would still make the playoffs.
Some people have come around and given the Skins their due. Bradshaw admitted he was wrong about Gibbs and his coaching abilities and even predicted that the Skins would run the table and make the playoffs. Chris Mortenson and John Clayton are pretty unbiased in their opinions of the Skins.
Perhaps in '06 the Skins will have a bit more respect headed into the season. Winning generally will get you that, but I'm sure there will always be haters like Lenny Pasta and Sean Salisbury blowing plenty of hot air in the Redskins' direction.
12thMan 01-18-2006, 11:51 AM What's funny is, although I don't care for Salisbury at all, it was Michael Irvin of all people, who had some fairly reasonable and accurate things to say about the Redskins when most didn't give us a chance.
You would have thought that Salisbury and Tom Jackson would have been more correct in their analysis and Irvin would have been the "talking head", but it was just the other way around.
When he renegged on his walk from CT to DC and then later said after our loss to Seattle that we had no business being in the playoffs, there's no way this guy has been watching the same Redskins as we have.
