Taylor is a great player, but what a jerk. It's too bad that GW vouched for that .......

In my book, spitting is worse than throwing a punch because it's such a total lack of class and sportsmanship.

In the heat of the battle, punches will fly on occassion and to me that's much more understandable than someone resorting to the punk-ass action of spitting at someone.

I can still respect someone who gets heated and throws a punch. But someone who spits I just lose all respect for.

Now don't get me wrong, I still think ST is a heck of a player and I'd rather have him on our side, but in the end he's a punk with alot of growing up to do. He could have cost his team the game, and that's a very selfish and immature thing to do.

I respect your opinion but I see it pretty much the opposite.

Yes, spitting is disgusting - but it amounts to nothing more than an immature lack of respect in my book. Throwing punches, or worse, something like Marcus Vick stomping down on the calf of an opponent is far worse.

Just my opinion and I'm sure many disagree - I just feel that violence and a clear intent to inflict serious bodily injury on someone is far worse than hocking some spit which is just gross.

What further compounds the whole Taylor situation is that he lied about it. Somebody doing something like that in the heat of the moment is bad enough and shows a lack of control and discipline. Lying about it straight to both your coaches, your team and the entire country shows an utter lack of character.

Just a shade off topic here, but can anyone tell me where the fine money goes? I mean players get fined on a regular basis and over the course of the season I'm sure it adds up to millions. What does the NFL do with the money?

In the football sense i don think its anyworse because they all yeild the same concequnces. Getting thrown out of the game. That interutps tempo and the flow of the defense

This is exactly my point. Carey essentially felt the act was so disgusting that Taylor deserved to be smacked. That's BS, refs should not have power to interpret the rulebook based on their emotions. Carey experienced the emotion of disgust and levied a ruling partially based on that emotion; that's not rational judgment.

It probably explains why the NFL didn't hit ST with much of a fine.

I tend to agree. I thought that there should have been offsetting 15 yard penalties and an ejection for ST. That would have been the proper way to officiate the play in my opinion. It is not up to the official to determine whether ilegal actions by one party excuse the ilegal actions of another. Basicaly, the ref here applied the "two wrongs make a right" rule. Absurd...

THere's something particularly nasty and negative about spitting in someone's face--in football, they're hitting each other all the time. Spitting is a different kind of thing--it's a sort of personal disrespect. I think it's totally appropriate that Taylor was tossed. One the video, listen to the skins response to the ref--he says that Taylor spit in Pittman's face; the skins (I think it's Prileau or Stoutmeyer, maybe (sps??)) say oh! and stop asking questions. I think most players would agree that it was the right move. About the retaliation--hard to say.

My main hope is that Taylor friggin learns from this!!! My god, he almost cost us the game in the playoffs! Can you imagine what this thread would be like if the bucs had caught that pass that got behind our depleted secondary? Wow. He needs to wake up--you can't act like a punk. It hurts the team.

I heard that this video on putfile, is a doctored video. I have seen several views and even watched the game in slo mo at home last night, and there is nothing there.

Staks--that's interesting. Where did you hear that it was doctored? I, too, wondered that--not the rest of the vid, but just the obvious lugie that you see. If that's the netwrok feed, why didn't they show it? It's crucial and graphic video, just the sort of thing that you replay over and over...

I like you (except for the dude from Scotland, and the down under guy.......and 5rings) am an AMERICAN. I am proud of America, and the American institution of football. It occupies a signifigant amount of my time. As we all know Football is a violent sport. Sometmes things get out of hand and the violence goes beyond the allowable "play". Not acceptable, but understandable. Take your penalty and be on your way with dignity, pride, intact.

Spitting on an opponent has NOTHING to do with the game. It's akin' to taking a shit on the field of play. Just NASTY!!!!!!!! I mean is that REALLY necessary. To an American (and I am sure everone else-rightly, or wrongly) it is an extreme sign of disrespect. NOT understandable and NOT acceptable. he deserves what he got and maybe more. I have tremendous respect for ST and the job he does. Definately one of my favorite dudes. Let's just say I am pissed off by this. He needs to pay the price for his indiscretion, learn from it and be done with it! Dude needs NO MORE trouble in his life.
