I too think Patten made a big difference. He wasn't doing alot stat wise, but teams had to respect him.

We desperately need an OC if we ever want to compete for a championship in the near future. Last time I checked the Skins are competing for a championship now. FRPLG 01-11-2006, 09:31 AM Last time I checked the Skins are competing for a championship now. Good point. celts32 01-11-2006, 09:42 AM This is absurd...we get mad when we see the national media over react to one poor offensive performance and then we go and do the same "what's wrong" thread here. They were scoring over 30 points a game a couple weeks ago... Joe Gibbs does not need an offensive coordinator unless he says he does. MTK 01-11-2006, 09:49 AM Last time I checked the Skins are competing for a championship now. end of discussion. BrudLee 01-11-2006, 09:50 AM There are 24 teams in this league who need to figure out what they should do for next year. We are one of the teams that needs to figure out what to do this week. offiss 01-11-2006, 09:54 AM Then that isn't a problem with the offensive philosophy as what some here claim everytime we don't score more than 21 points. That to me just says that we need another deep threat receiver to compliment Moss. One more deep threat receiver can make all the difference in the world. If we go with another offensive coordinator (which tells me people are still not sold on Joe Gibbs which is ignorant in my opinion) then you still just have Moss, Cooley, and Portis. Like it or not, this is Redskins football and this is what has made Joe Gibbs' teams champions in the past and what has them in the second round of the playoffs now. We've seen proof that the system works. I believe this is just a knee jerk reaction. Just like several weeks ago when people wanted Gregg Williams to leave Washington after the defense looked as if it was folding under. Now, it's the samething with Joe Gibbs or Don Breaux. Have faith in this team. Even if we don't get passed the Seahawks this weekend, you can't deny Gibbs and company have done all the right things to get us to this point. I would tend to more of the blame on Brunell, he had a proven burner in Patten and barely used the guy. I am not putting blame on Gibbs at this point, unless you want to say he should do something to force Brunell to look for other options occasionally. Patten is the reason I haven't given up on Jacobs yet, Patten proved himself on the biggest stage there is in football, and yet he can't produce for us? Something is not right with our offense, whether it's the QB, the playcalling, or the 3rd and 4th Recievers. Daseal made a post a month or so ago, he said while at the game Jacobs was getting open but Brunell wasen't basically giving the guy any consideration for a pass. It's much easier for a QB to just have to options especially one's he feels comfortable with, but he has to find a repore with Jacob's, I find it hard to believe the guy is NEVER open! offiss 01-11-2006, 09:58 AM Brunell throwing the ball away, probably sealed up that win in TB. All he had to do was limit turnovers. He did. We won. We DEFINATELY need some complimentary recievers, if we ever want to win a championship game. We could probably get there without them, but to win we need them. Just look at what NE did to the Colt's offense last year. Everyone who played on their offense went to the pro-bowl. 3 recievers with 1000+ yards and 10 TD's apiece... and they go to NE and get held to 3 pts? You gotta be ready to face better D's than Tampa and walk away with some time of possession (at least) and no TO's. The Tampa reciever dropping that ball in the end zone sealed the deal in Tampa, bottom line Brunell left them in the game, our defense won it. We can't rely on essentially 2 defensive TD's every game. Daseal 01-11-2006, 10:00 AM When I watched the Dallas game I saw Jacobs wide open quite a few times and no one even looked his way. We NEED to spread the ball around a bit more. Even if we dont break huge plays with these other players it keeps the defense honest. Skinsguy -- I'd LOVE to see where people wanted to can Williams. Please post a thread. MTK 01-11-2006, 10:02 AM I believe sooner or later Patten would have broken through with some big games for us. It was inevitable with the way Moss was playing things would have opened up for him. As for Jacobs, I've had his back for quite a while now but I'm on the edge with him now. I really didn't like the way he went after the ball on that INT last week, a very weak effort if you ask me. Coaches have said he's amazing in practice but he hasn't been able to translate that to the game for whatever reason. He couldn't even hold the job over Thrash. I don't think it's looking very good for him headed into the offseason. |
