from his teammates' quotes, it sounds like it happened:
"I saw that, and I'm thinking, 'We don't need that right now,' " said Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels. "He has to realize this is the playoffs."
Not good Sean, especially after i believed you the first time!
bjschmonsees 01-08-2006, 08:33 AM I haven't read the entire thread, but Pittman should have been ejected too. He threw a punch. I love Sean Taylor, but he is a hothead. I think I saw the realization in his eyes that he knows that he did something wrong on the sidelines after the incident...
BrudLee 01-08-2006, 08:58 AM I can't believe anyone is even defending the action of someone spitting in another person's face. Wow, I'm kinda shocked actually.
Matty-
Had there been clear evidence of Taylor popping Pittman with a loogie (a la Romanowski vs. Stokes), I'd be disgusted with him. That doesn't exist. There were HD cameras on the players, and no one has given any evidence of a malicious act. I saw two players jawing - which happens every game - and Pittman hitting. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that Carey threw the flag on Pittman, who claimed spitting as his alibi, and hit Taylor with the penalty.
Sammy Baugh Fan 01-08-2006, 09:17 AM I've watch that every way I can and I see "NO SPITTING".
Pittmans a punk and was frustrated with getting knocked in the mouth and cried and lied and his home town Ref threw the flag.
BFD
It will be Shawn Alexander spitting.....OUT HIS TEETH...next week.
Hail Skins
Sammy Baugh Fan 01-08-2006, 09:27 AM A flag is NOT proof.
From NFL.com about last year.
" Taylor was investigated last season for spitting at Cincinnati receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The NFL carefully reviewed tapes to determine whether Taylor should be fined, but they found no video evidence to support the allegation."
dgack 01-08-2006, 09:32 AM I can't believe that so many of you guys are sticking up for this guy!
That is totally inexcusable.
I'll be happy to accept your righteous indignation. Just post a message here condemning Michael Irvin and his drug problem, Terry Glenn and his drunk-driving, wife-beating issues, Nate Newton, Leon Lett, and so on...
Bottom line is, none of these guys are perfect human beings. Stop applying higher standards to them, because it's not true of guys on your team any more than it is to guys on ours.

That to me sounds like they are saying they don't need the penalty and ejection, which is absolutely correct and they have a right to be irritated about it.
There is something to be said for a player with a rep for getting into situations like this being baited by other players and/or not getting the benefit of the doubt from the refs. I'm not saying it happened here, but we've seen it in the NFL and even the NBA, where certain players whose checkered past follows them every where they go, get called for things they may not have actually done.
Taylor is probably approaching that status, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see more players come after him and try to take advantage of the situation. What the team captains need to do is get him back to the huddle as soon as a play is blown dead and keep him away from any potentially bad situations, if that's what it takes.

I think the Houshmanzadeh quote just about sums Taylor up...
"He's a punk. It's just something he did. That's how he is, so be it."
BrudLee 01-08-2006, 09:52 AM As other threads have noticed, Len Pasquarelli is no fan of this team. However, even he says in his wrap-up that Taylor was "ejected in the third quarter for allegedly spitting" on Pittman (emphasis mine). If Pasta is giving Taylor more credit than the members of this site, we all need to take a step back, breathe deeply, and think for a moment.
Sonny J 01-08-2006, 10:13 AM I don't have a problem with the ejection, I believe if he actually did it, he should have been. He didn't seem to upset that he was tossed. I do have a problem with no flag being throw for the TB player smacking him upside the head.
