Been discussing this on the Skins newsgroup. Fumbles tend to balance out as they are more of a random factor (how the ball bounces as it were).

INT's on the other hand are a product of good coverage and QB pressure. That has made a difference in the last few weeks, although the fumbles bouncing our way may also have an emotional/awareness element to them.I have to disagree with your statement that fumbles tend to balance out. I do agree that you have no controll of which way the ball will go. If you have players attacking the ball and playing out the play your average will go up with more guys in position to make the play. Our D has done a good job in the second half of the season of getting the ball lose and then haven players in position to fall on it.

I would also disagree about fumbles. Being that when a player has the ball defensive players should be in general swarming towards while the other offensive players not I believe the more fumbles you cause the more the defense will end up recovering. The defense has the player advantage usually in fumble situations so it stands to reason that over the long haul defenses recover more fumbles than offenses. This year was a particularly bad year for us as it seemed early on we weren't swarming the ball carrier like we needed to and therefore we weren't gaining our player advantage and lessened our opportunities to recover the fumbles. Our swarming ahs increased and our recovered fumbles has gotten better. I don't fumbles even out when a defense is playign as it is suppose to.

I had no idea we'd closed that gap. That's unbelievable.

We were -13 after week 11 (the Oakland game). We ended at +1, making up the difference in six games.

Driving to the Oakland game, I said to my buddy - "We are currently -11 in the turnover ratio, if we win the turnover battle today and end up even for the year, we will win the division." I was pretty damn close!

It seemed that the ball was on the groung and before one of our players noticed it the offense already was making a play for it. Now it seems we are looking for the ball to come out and when it does we are going after it.

I really felt and have seen other people her note it here as well as some experts saying they simply weren't able to swarm as much because of a weaker secondary and some inexperience in the LBs. When those things traightened out and our line started getting healthy the swarming commenced. Go back and compare if you have a chance and I think you'll agree.

It realy do not care how its happened I'm just glad they turn that trend around and this is the best time of year for that change.
